Thomas Locke Hobbs
Hi! Thanks for visiting. I'm an American photographer living in Buenos Aires. These are photos from the blog I kept on my site from 2003 to 2009. I now have redesigned the home page to just show a portfolio of my current work. I also blog at BuenosAiresPhotographer.com where I post my baires snapshots.
Last Post!
I started this blog in 2003 as a place to share my photos on the web. I've decided I need to be using this domain name to present a portfolio of my best work. As such, soon this blog won't appear here anymore. I will never delete the content of this blog. Doing so would be like erasing part of my brain. All the content published here will always be accessible and I'm not going to change any URLs. I created a page to access the archives of this blog
I still intend to keep blogging and so I've started a new blog over at thomaslockehobbs.wordpress.com, the first post is already up. If you're following me in a feed reader, please update your subscription.
And thanks for reading!
Last month I traveled to the US to visit friends in New York and family in Los Angeles. While I was there I picked up a new large format camera. It was a bit of a mystery as I'd researched and selected everything online. I specifically picked out a camera, lens and tripod that would be extremely light weight [given the size of the format]. My old outfit weighed 30lbs. This one weighs 13lbs. The camera is a Wehman 8x10. They're hand made by Bruce Wehman in his workshop in Rockford, Illinois. The lens is a Fujinon 240mm f9, which is one of the smallest & lightest lenses that will cover an 8x10 inch negative. The tripod is a Feisol CT-3441s. It's carbon fiber like a Gitzo, but half the price. I figured out all this after a lot of research online and some help from the Large Format Photography forum. I took the picture above while waiting for the sun to go down. Shortly after it did, I "snapped" a picture of my aunt & uncle which is two posts below. Here's also another shot of the camera set-up. I should probably get a real dark cloth, though.
Pablo, July 2009 Here's what happened with this photo. I had my light set-up and I was testing the exposure with my digital SLR but at 1/8th power to save on batteries. When I set-up my 8x10 camera I forgot to put the flash on full power so what you're seeing here is 3-stops of underexposure.
The negative has just this faint dusting of silver. In photoshop I brought the levels WAY up which exaggerates all the dust on the negative. I wasn't trying to go for that Edward Curtis, distressed vintage look. It's not something I'm into but I'm open to the unexpected.
Hi. I'm a 33 year-old American currently living in Buenos Aires. Before that I lived in California, Sao Paulo and New York and if you browse through the archives below you can see photos of all those places. Currently I'm posting most of my pictures on BuenosAiresPhotographer.com. I also have an old geocities page with some outdated information but also more photos of Buenos Aires, friends and my 9/11 pictures.
