Hi! Thanks for visiting. I'm an American photographer living in Buenos Aires. These are photos from the blog I kept on my site from 2003 to 2009. I now have redesigned the home page to just show a portfolio of my current work. I also blog at BuenosAiresPhotographer.com where I post my baires snapshots.
Coto is a local supermarket chain here in Argentina that's got red and blue all over it's buildings. See also, Poetas de Nadie, also taken from the same Coto in Floresta.
Taking a picture of Sebastian. The afternoon light in my apartment is great but a little low. Sitting on the floor seems to work better. Photo by Vagner.
Asado, morcilla, salad I went a little overboard on photoshop. The flash on the camera was way too powerful and un-manipulated, the photo didn't manage to convey the savageness I saw on my plate. The meat was from the asado a la cruz.
My friend Martin owns a tire shop in a small city in Entre Rios province. I was up there last weekend and spent a good amount of time sitting in that white chair there reading the local gossip rags.
Other photos I liked
I'm sharing a wall with some fantastic photos by other students in Alberto Goldenstein's class. The photo above, by Fernanda Molina, is of a used lipstick found among her mother's posessions after she passed away.
This photo, by Maria Paula Prieto, shows three women from the dance troupe to which she belongs. The comfort with their bodies, eachother as well as the photographer is evident.
Our assignments each week were general and a bit contrived. Anabella Goldberger took the assignment "bodies" and went in a totally different direction, taking her inspiration from police procedurals and sensational tabloid news. For her a body is something you find, usually dead. These were the most elaborately staged photos and I think it takes a lot of guts to do that.
I currently have two of my pictures on view at the Centro Cultural Rojas on Avenida Corrientes 2038. It's a group show for all the students of this semester's photography classes. I took Taller de la Imagen with Alberto Goldenstein. He's an excellent professor who inspired the students to produce amazing work. My pictures are the two big heads you see there. They're from a series of portraits I've been doing with my 4x5 large format camera. Martin and Ally, my two friends in the photos are very good sports to have sat for me and let me use the photos in the exhibit. Tomorrow I'll write another post with some of the other photos I really enjoyed from the exhibit. If you are currently in Buenos Aires, you can see the photos until Dec. 19th.
A couple of weeks ago I visited San Juan and Mendoza, which I've been documenting here, on flickr and on my other blog, BuenosAiresPhotographer.com. Here's a couple of last images. This is a shrine to Difunta Correa, a folk saint in Argentina. She is popular with truck drivers. This shrine is on Route 7 near Uspallata. It's the main road connecting Argentina and Brazil with Chile. There's a lot of truck traffic and a lot of potential donors. It's common to leave a water bottle because, according to legend, Correa died of thirst. I think it's remarkable how trash can be transformed into something sacred.

Emilie at Tempus Alba in Maipu, Mendoza. I had to escape from the humidity of Buenos Aires, so we took off for San Juan and Mendoza for 4 days early this week.
Hi. I'm a 33 year-old American currently living in Buenos Aires. Before that I lived in California, Sao Paulo and New York and if you browse through the archives below you can see photos of all those places. Currently I'm posting most of my pictures on BuenosAiresPhotographer.com. I also have an old geocities page with some outdated information but also more photos of Buenos Aires, friends and my 9/11 pictures.
