Weekend in Rosario

The recently unveiled statue of Enersto "Che" Guevara in his hometown of Rosario. The statue was unveilved only a week ago to commemorate what would have been his 80th birthday. Here's another version of the che statue on my flickr account. At the inauguration, there were even che imitators. This guy could also do a 70s Elvis.

Rosario's best known landmark is the Monumento a la Bandera, seen here from its tower. The monument also has an amphiteature, reflecting pool, colonnade and assorted statuary. Maciej Ceglowski observed that it looks like it was built by someone who forgot to uncheck the extras on the monument order form (read his whole post on Rosario, it's hilarious).

The hefty square cross deep in the bowls of the monument, next to the gift shop reminds me of Francisco Salamone's entrance to the Saldungaray Cemetery in Buenos Aires province.

The highlight of our weekend, however, was sitting front row at the Adriana Calconhotto show at the Festival Telecom. Calconhotto is a well known Brazilian singer-songwriter. I became familiar with her music via the simple but sweet song, Fico assim sem você (it's a cute video)
