Thomas Locke Hobbs

Hi! Thanks for visiting. I'm an American photographer living in Buenos Aires. These are photos from the blog I kept on my site from 2003 to 2009. I now have redesigned the home page to just show a portfolio of my current work. I also blog at BuenosAiresPhotographer.com where I post my baires snapshots.

I shared a room with my brother until I was 8. On the bulletin board were these posters of yearly photos, filled out until the renovation that gave us separate rooms. All I can say is, wow, I was quite a fatso at 4 and a half [2nd from left].

A quick wine taste at Ridge Winery on Sunday. I didn't have a whole lot of time but Ridge is only about 20 minutes from my house up the very steep Montebelllo Road in Cupertino. A strong Santa Ana type wind was blowing all the crap in the air out to sea making the views fantastic. The vinyards were a pleasing autumn color and the wine good [and expensive] as always. A banana slug at Hertiage Grove, a tiny, 37 acre park that has the closest old growth redwoods to my house, along Alpine Road near La Honda [trail map]. See also 2006.10.01

The one's from a couple of year's ago. I was on the beach in Monterey the day before my brother's wedding with my dad, cousin & uncle. I was taking pictures of my cousin. My uncle took this picture of me taking pictures and I only recently found this on one of my archive DVDs. See also 2005.10.16

Mom's memorial was on Sunday. Nearly 60 people came. We had it in the backyard on a beautiful, warm day. Friends from all of mom's various "tribes"--the knitters, the sewing group, the potters, the elementary school moms, and both book clubs--came to celebrate her life. The feeling was festive, rather than somber as we enjoyed some excellent food and told stories.

My brother put together a website as a memorial for our mom. It's at LaurelLockeHobbs.com It has a lot of great, old photos, like the one above, that my dad has been scanning over the last year.

Another perfect, sunny, October day in San Francisco. You'd almost think you were in San Jose. I went up to the Castro Street Fair. The trash cans there were subdivided into three categories: Landfill, Recycle and Compost. I liked how the regular trash cans were hermetically sealed forcing you to choose between the three. I think we humans don't deal well with too many choices. I saw people linger over the three cans wondering which was the proper receptacle.

I suspect recycling is a mostly symbolic gesture meant to assauge our guilty [liberal] consciences. Adding "compost" as a category seems to be taking things too far. I wanted to leave a big, steaming turd right there, altho that probably would've been more appropriate at the Folsom Street Fair last week.

An unsubtle parody of an unsubtle movie.
