Thomas Locke Hobbs
Hi! Thanks for visiting. I'm an American photographer living in Buenos Aires. These are photos from the blog I kept on my site from 2003 to 2009. I now have redesigned the home page to just show a portfolio of my current work. I also blog at BuenosAiresPhotographer.com where I post my baires snapshots.
Orfeu Negro [poached eggs, mozzarella, black beans on a baguette] at Cafe Brasil in Santa Cruz São Paulo graffiti, some shots I took. I finally figured out how to type ã, õ and ç on my MacBook.
Mission Peak
Sunday I hiked to the top of Mission Peak above Fremont.
McMansions creep their way up the mountain.
Terraces made by grazing cows. The land is protected, which is nice, I guess. I'd rather have high rises on the mountainsides than sprawl in Tracy. People complain about the Manhattanization of the Bay Area and I think, is that such a bad thing? Mega-Panoramic Photos of São Paulo. Check these out. The pics are amazing.
Gazos Creek Beach & Año Nuevo
Sunday's New York Times featured an article, Big Sur Without the Crowds, which talked about the brisk but sunny and crystal clear winter days along the California coast. Inspired, I drove out to Pescadero and a little-visited beach familiar from my childhoood at Gazos Creek, just north of Año Nuevo State Park, which is known for it's elephant seals. Since I can't let go of Sao Paulo, I'll note that a random websearch lead me to this page talking about urban decay in Sao Paulo and wouldn't you know it, they lifted a whole bunch of photos from my flickr page.
Downtown San Jose and Mt. Hamilton from Page Mill Road in Palo Alto
Also from Page Mill Road, Moffet Field & Mission Peak
The coastline around San Gregorio as seen from Alpine Road. The horizon is a bit crooked. I didn't get out of my car, or even turn off the ignition, when I took this shot. Rio Bonito Market in Queens [Flickr]

Galeria Melissa on Rua Oscar Freire
Me & Vagner in front of a building's security box.
MASP and Avenida Paulista on Dec. 31st. The crowds are from the Sao Silvestre foot race. I've put all these photos and more on a flickr set.

I like the orange uniforms the street cleaners wear

In Brazil the pharmacies sell Viagra over the counter. That last sentence will mean this post will get a lot of hits from google searches or will be flagged as spam. Probably both. Labels: brasil
Sidewalks in Sao Paulo
Edificio Copan at night Réveillon na Paulista, Flickr is great for events where I didn't bring my camera. These are pics from Avenida Paulista, where I spent the night of the 31st. As I've been telling people, it's like Times Square but with twice as many people, warm weather and no open container laws. Oh, and after midnight the bands kept on playing until 3am.

Brazil Again
I went to São Paulo again over Christmas and New Year's.
This was my fourth Christmas in the Southern Hemisphere so it no longer seems strange to celebrate the holiday in summertime. What is weird, still, is the wholesale adoption of wintertime Christmas imagery. This display on Avenida Paulista at least makes a nod to the Southern Hemisphere [and current cultural zeitgeist] by including penguins.
I didn't have a very ambitious itinerary. Mostly I just wanted to eat my favorite Brazilian foods, like Coxinhas [shredded chicken, stuffed inside mashed potato and deep fried].
A smoothie with açaí, guarana, ice tea and milk. mmmm... Labels: brasil
Hi. I'm a 33 year-old American currently living in Buenos Aires. Before that I lived in California, Sao Paulo and New York and if you browse through the archives below you can see photos of all those places. Currently I'm posting most of my pictures on BuenosAiresPhotographer.com. I also have an old geocities page with some outdated information but also more photos of Buenos Aires, friends and my 9/11 pictures.
