Last Saturday I went to visit art galleries in Chelsea with my friends Andrew and Edward. Here's Andrew lit from above by the skylight at the Julie Saul gallery where we were seeing a photo exhibit by Todd Hido. Some of these galleries just have the best light; bright, indirect, difuse. My favorite exhibit of the day was a series by An-My Le, a Vietnamese-American photographer who shows American soldiers training in the Mojave Desert [bad, flash website]. At first the pictures appear to be from Iraq or Afghanistan which leads to a kind of mental double-take when you realize it's not. An earlier series of her work that I saw at PS1 showed Vietnam War re-enactors in North Carolina.
