Thomas Locke Hobbs

Hi! Thanks for visiting. I'm an American photographer living in Buenos Aires. These are photos from the blog I kept on my site from 2003 to 2009. I now have redesigned the home page to just show a portfolio of my current work. I also blog at BuenosAiresPhotographer.com where I post my baires snapshots.

Sorry about the lack of postings. I've bought a new digital camera, a Canon Digital Rebel. It's taken me a few days to figure out the UI and hook it up to my computer. The measly 300x300 pixel, low grade jpg images I post on this site will never do the camera justice. In fact, they probably only mask the differences between it and my disposable-quality Sony Cybershot. Still, I'm happy as a clam with the new camera, and especially with the long perspective and shallow depth of field [seen above] I get with the standard length 50mm lens.

I was in DC last weekend and spent most of it obsessively talking politics, which, i guess is appropriate. Waking up early on Sunday morning to see Bush on Meet the Press was a Big Deal. I met a lobbyist who claims that there's not enough money in politics. To be fair, I think he was only pointing out that the sums spent electing congress and the senate, even the presidency is puny compared to a $2.4 trillion budget. This has always struck me as true especially when compared to what I know about Latin America [perhaps not a flattering comparison]. For instance, in the 1994 Governor's election for the Mexican state of Tabasco, Robert Madrazo spent $70million. This in a state where the population is only 1.5 million [tho I suppose this isn't so far off what Bloomberg spent to win New York City].

photo of thomas locke hobbs Hi. I'm a 33 year-old American currently living in Buenos Aires. Before that I lived in California, Sao Paulo and New York and if you browse through the archives below you can see photos of all those places. Currently I'm posting most of my pictures on BuenosAiresPhotographer.com. I also have an old geocities page with some outdated information but also more photos of Buenos Aires, friends and my 9/11 pictures.
